swollen

Whoa.

The weather has been GREAT the last couple of days...I love heat with no humidity and even when there is humidity I do good (I think I was a lizard in a past life)...but with the heat comes a little something I wasn't aware of...preggo swelling. Otherwise known as edema.

Well, I take that back. I knew swelling was normal when pregnant, but haven't experienced it thus far. I guess it helps that I have been living in running sneakers and gone through most of this pregnancy in cold weather.

Now the weather gets super hot and I get a new pair of sandals I think are going to be OK for work (I'm on my feet a lot during the day). Monday they worked out well and my feet were only slightly sore that evening. Tuesday I woke up and the bottoms of my feet felt slightly bruised. I put the sandals back on and went about my day. Well, I overdid it and when I got home and actually SAW my feet, I shrieked!

WARNING: This is not for the faint of heart...

!!!!!!

I warned you!!! It was not pretty. I love my feet. They do a lot of great things for me and I try to take good care of them...but damn. I put them up for the rest of the evening and began drinking a lot of water. They looked better after a few hours and were not as bad today. I went back to the running shoes and loose socks. Much better today. They felt like they were getting a massage compared to having the sandals on.

I'm a little worried since this hit me out of no where and can be a sign of preeclampsia, but I'm sure it's fine. Go back to the doctor next week so I'll ask her then. Plus it is hopeful that the swelling went down overnight and isn't as bad today. My rings were a little tight this morning too.

Almost 35 weeks, so I'm in the homestretch with 6 or less weeks to go. After this, running a marathon is going to be a breeze!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope everyone is having a happy v-day! It was wild in school today, I'm so glad the day is over!!!

I stopped by Dunken Donuts this morning to get some of the cute heart shaped donuts for my team at school. Little did I know that about 2 hours later my principal would be coming around with Krispy Kreme donuts! So I had 2 donuts this morning, and then the PTA gave us lunch which was great, and I ate a cupcake...and a cookie...and a small brownie...

I think I can actually feel the sugar oozing out of my pores. It's gross. Never has it felt so good to wash my face as it did this afternoon. My goal for tomorrow is to not eat ANY sugar.

C and I decided to celebrate V-Day last night since we are leaving tomorrow for PA. His mom is throwing me a baby shower this weekend! It's the first one so I am excited!

Anyways we went out to dinner and exchanged gifts. I told him all I wanted was a large box of Russell Stover candies. Little did I know that he would take it so literally...

I laughed pretty hard when he walked in the back door....

Being curious, I counted the number of pieces in the box...78 pieces. Then I did the math....I probably shouldn't even be telling you this...
2 pieces are 150 calories...which turns out to be 5,850 calories in the whole box. Holy sh*t!

I will be eating out of this box sporadically until my son is born in May. I guess this is where all the extra baby weight I have yet to gain is going to come from!

Check back tomorrow for a really long post!

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone has had a good start to the new year! Ours has been interesting. C and I both have sinusitis which has just been peachy and on top of that my dog Cricket broke her toenail on New Year's Eve. Our vet was closed yesterday and today so we ended up at the emergency vet after I called what seemed like every vet in the area and they were all closed. It wasn't too bad and I think I ended up paying the same amount I would have at my regular vet. Glad we got her all fixed up but not how I was expecting to spend the first day of the new year :-(

Poor Cricket :-(

Anyways, last week we headed up to PA to visit C's parents for a few days. They live in the mountains of PA. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere in a place where people camp for the weekend and don't actually live, so it's pretty much just you and nature. The day after we got there it started snowing and the first day we got about 8 inches. Two days later we got more snow and had a total of about 14 inches. It was fun to see some snow since it stays fairly warm in RVA. I had to wear my father in law's snow pants since mine don't fit right now and I didn't bother to take them with me. I looked and felt like the kid from A Christmas Story. I wanted to sled down a small hill in their yard, and since the didn't have a sled, we used one of the tubes we go down the creek in during the summer. It worked out pretty good even though I had to roll out of the tube! Being pregnant is awkward.

View from my in law's back porch

I didn't spend too much time out in the snow since I have been sick but Cricket had a blast. She went from being terrified of snow to loving it in about 5 minutes. We had to stick her in the basement till all the snowballs melted off of her.

Next time she's getting shaved before we go up there...

We came home Sunday and went straight to the doctor since we both felt so terrible. Glad to be home but I do kind of miss the snow. The mountains are really pretty when it snows.

So, everyone's favorite New Year's topic, RESOLUTIONS!
Mine for 2013: have a healthy pregnancy, have a healthy baby, clean the clutter out of my house before baby gets here, get back into running and lose the baby weight, and take better care of my dog (monthly nail clippings and ear pluckings) Pretty simple things I think I can accomplish.

Anyone have any resolutions to share??

Don't be THAT runner...

I found this a while ago and couldn't stop laughing. I meant to post it but forgot. The other weekend I saw a guy running EXACTLY like the Stiffy. I wanted to jump out of my car and correct him I felt so bad for the guy!

Anyways, runners will get this. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll think about your form the next time you go running...
