Go away now winter

This morning we had a 2 hour delay and the students had off, and since I woke up early I decided to hit the gym! I loved getting to the gym early and getting my run over with but seeing this in the car was no fun...
Aww hell no

Yes it was 1 degree outside. It was warmer in Alaska by the way. Even though it was cold it wasn't terribly bitter. I'm thankful I have a gym membership and can use the treadmill since this snow hasn't melted at all and looks like it's going nowhere fast. Needless to say, today was my only run this week and I don't think I will be getting one in this weekend. I will have to step it up big time next week.

For now, be gone winter!!!

Race for the Chocolate 5K

Saturday my friend Jess and I ran the Race for the Chocolate 5K in New Kent, Virginia at New Kent Winery. The course was very hilly, it was very cold and for some unknown reason, the race started 15 minutes late. There was no warning, they just blasted a horn at 9:15AM. BAM! RUN!

I think I did fairly well for only running once this week. I have been running 30 minute 5Ks and I did this one in 33:27. Pretty good considering how hilly it was. Hills always slow you down. I also walked a bit because my hip flexor was bothering me. I'm not really sure what to do about that.

At the end we got our roses, chocolate and wine samples and then hit the road. It was too cold to hang around. I might do it again if I sign up early enough next time so it is cheaper, but I am no hurry to repeat this one. I really don't like hills. Even with all that I managed to finish 75th in a total of 376 women and 11th out of 59 in my age group. Holla!

On another note, this was the 40TH RACE I have run!!! Go me!! I can't believe I have 40 races under my belt.

Sorry this is a short post. I am exhausted and can't really think of much to say. I am also about to go eat some pizza which I hope will make my stomach feel better. It's still feeling a little rough after that bottle of wine last night :-0

Let the training begin...

I am officially 2 weeks into my 10K training! So far so good and it feels GREAT to be back at this and (almost) fully back to normal. My legs still give me some trouble, my knee and hip flexor, but it's getting better. I'm getting there.

Instead of doing all of my running outside, I have been doing 2 days a week at the gym on the treadmill. I usually hate the treadmill but awhile back I found the interval setting and it makes it feel so much better. I do a 2:1 interval and it keeps my legs from wearing out and keeps me from getting bored. It also helps that if I go right after work, Sex and the City is on E and I can totally zone out to that.

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon and purchased the Believe training journal from Sister Sports. It looked pretty good and so far I have been pleased. It also inspires me to not miss a run because I enjoy logging my runs in it. It is filled with good advice and fun stuff too.

Stepping it up on the Fitbit has been fun too. This week at work we are starting a contest to see who can get the most steps each week. I am excited because my training has caused my daily step count to jump WAY up. This is also extra incentive to get me to run.

In other news we have started our kitchen renovations! I CANNOT WAIT to post pictures of the final product! It's going to be sooooo good!!!

The weather this weekend was amazing. I am so ready for spring and summer. B and I even got out to the park and went for a walk :-)
